Oud, also known as agarwood, is a dark, fragrant resin formed in the heartwood of Aquilaria trees. It smells woody, smoky and leathery, sometimes with sweet or animalic facets, and has been treasured in Middle Eastern perfumery for centuries. Many modern perfumes use oud accords to achieve a similar effect.
