What is a chypre fragrance?

Chypre (pronounced 'sheep-ruh') is one of perfumery's classic structures: a bright bergamot opening, a floral heart and a base of oakmoss, patchouli and labdanum. The contrast between fresh top and earthy, mossy base gives chypres their sophisticated, slightly austere character.

Notes you will often find

Bergamot, green and mossy accords, patchouli, rose, jasmine and resins. Fruity chypres add peach or berries.

When to wear it

Chypres feel polished and confident: well suited to work, smart occasions and spring or autumn days.
